Electric UnderFloor Heating Mats

SunTouch UnderFloor electric radiant floor warming matElectric under floor radiant heating offers floor warmth year-round. SunTouch® UnderFloor™ heating mats are the perfect solution for nearly every type of floor covering. These special electric floor heating mats warm existing floors without having to replace the floor coverings. Simply staple UnderFloor heating mats between the joists. The end result will be warm, comfortable, heated floors from SunTouch.

  • Experience up to 15°F more warmth on most floors.
  • Between 6° and 10°F more warmth on carpet.
  • Step 1

Unroll and staple mats into your joist bays, 2 inches from the subfloor. Remember, mats are designed to fit in just one bay at a time.

  • Step 2

Mount junction boxes in accessible locations. Connect mats to power supply in parallel at junction boxes. Always follow electrical and building codes, using conduit and electrical boxes where needed. Limit 15 amps per thermostat.

  • Step 3

After connecting your SunStat thermostat and testing the system, install R-11 to R-19 fiberglass batt insulation up to the mats. Also install insulation vertically at the ends of the joist bays or 6 inches after the mat ends.

Sample Kitchen Layout Using UnderFloor Mats

Diagram of sample UnderFloor application in a kitchen

Each electric UnderFloor heating mat is designed to be installed in only one joist bay. The heating mats cannot be cut shorter to fit a shorter joist bay or modified in any way to fill multiple joist bays. However, more than one mat may be installed in a joist bay where there are barriers such as cross bracing or blocking.

In this kitchen layout, four 9.5'x16" and eight 4'x16" mats are required to warm the floor area. The electric floor heating mats are wired together in parallel (not in series) at junction boxes below the floor, then electrical wire is fed over to the SunStat control.

Select mats for the easiest wiring possible. If all the power leads end up at one end of the room, it will be much easier to wire them together in the junction boxes. Junction boxes must be accessible after all finishing work is completed.
