Walking on a SunTouch radiant floor is like a walk on a sun-soaked beach. The electric floor-warming mats bring warmth to kitchens, bathrooms, commercial or institutional entries and just about anywhere you want warm tile, stone, or laminate flooring. SunTouch, a radiant floor heating company, believes in offering floor heating mats to transform your home from ordinary into extra-ordinary. And with nearly 45 different sizes of mats, you can be sure to find the sizes you need for rooms of almost any size or shape.
Measure and sketch the room you plan to warm. Use this to choose the best place for your thermostat, what areas you want heated and how many mats you will need. Heat 85-90% of open floor, staying 4-6 inches away from walls and built-ins.
Roll out your mats according to your sketch, fastening them to your subfloor with double-sided tape, staples, or hot glue. Mount your thermostat and place the temperature sensor between any two heating wires.
Cover mats with a cement based mortar, let it cure, then install your floor covering. If you are installing tile, you can install the tile when you apply the mortar. Connect mat power leads to your thermostat in parallel.
There is no practical technology for passively shielding a heating element to virtually eliminate H-field EMF. The only effective approach is "active shielding". This means canceling the H-field of one heating element with the H-field of another parallel element. Watts Radiant electric heated floors use this approach with a complex wire made of two sets of heating element constructions; running them in parallel with a patented helical twist.
The prestigious ETL Semko Laboratory recently tested Watts Radiant's SunTouch floor warming product along with four competing products according to the rigorously defined REET procedures. Each heating product covered about 35-40 square feet. This is the most common coverage for residential bathroom installations. The results speak for themselves:
If you are concerned about EMF exposure, insist that any electrical floor warming products be tested by ETL Semko, and that the true EMF output, according to the REET test, be published and made available to you.
